How much bitcoin is left to mine?
20,098,084 bitcoin have been issued, out of the 21,000,000 that can ever exist. That is 95.71 percent of the total, leaving 901,916 still to be mined over the next century or so. The supply cap is not a policy or a target. It is a rule in the software that every node enforces.
The block reward is 3.125 BTC and halves every 210,000 blocks. The next halving falls at block 1,050,000, 78,606 blocks away. At the ten minute target block time that lands around 12 Apr 2028, though blocks do not arrive on a timetable, so treat the date as arithmetic rather than a date in the diary.

Method, and what these numbers are not
The network. These are not estimates of what bitcoin is doing. They are what the chain itself records. Read through mempool.space and blockchain.info, both of which read the chain rather than quote a market.
Company holdings. SEC EDGAR, each company's own 10-K and 10-Q. Figures as the company reported them to the SEC. The SEC publishes what filers submit; it does not verify the numbers. Where a company filed the same period more than once, the newest filing is used, so a figure here can differ from the one published at the time.
Sanctions. US Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control, Specially Designated Nationals list. An address on this list is blocked for US persons. The count is of listed addresses, not of wallets still in use.
There is no price on this page. Every bitcoin price is an average across exchanges compiled by a third party, which is not a primary source. The live price lives on our bitcoin price page.
This page states what the numbers are, never what they will be. No forecasts, no price targets, and nothing here is financial advice.
Every figure is regenerated from the source by a script in our repository and refreshed weekly. Figures as at 14 Oct 2026.
Questions people ask about these numbers
How much bitcoin is left to mine?
901,916 bitcoin, out of the 21,000,000 that can ever exist. 20,098,084 have already been issued, which is 95.71 percent of the total. The remainder is released slowly over roughly the next century, because the block reward halves every 210,000 blocks.
When is the next bitcoin halving?
At block 1,050,000, which is 78,606 blocks away. At the protocol's ten minute target that lands around 12 Apr 2028, but blocks do not arrive on a timetable, so treat the date as arithmetic rather than a fixture. The block reward falls from 3.125 BTC to half that.
Which companies hold the most bitcoin?
STRATEGY INC reports the largest holding at 846,000 bitcoin, about 4.21 percent of everything mined. Across the 11 filers we track, 873,762 bitcoin is held in total. Every figure comes from that company's own 10-K or 10-Q, and the SEC does not verify the numbers filers submit.
What percentage of bitcoin do public companies own?
About 4.35 percent of all mined bitcoin is held by companies that file with the SEC and label their holding in bitcoin. That is a floor, not a total: some genuine holders record the unit generically and cannot be told apart from companies holding other crypto assets, so they are left out rather than guessed at.
How many crypto addresses has the US government sanctioned?
513 addresses across 16 assets appear on the US Treasury's sanctions list, 262 of them bitcoin. A listed address is blocked for US persons. This counts addresses the Treasury has named, not wallets still in use, and one person or group can be behind many addresses.
What is the bitcoin hashrate right now?
1,006.7 exahashes per second on a three day average, with mining difficulty at 132.72 trillion. Difficulty retargets every 2,016 blocks to keep blocks near ten minutes apart, so when more computing power arrives the puzzle gets harder rather than the coins arriving faster.
Why is there no bitcoin price on this page?
Because a bitcoin price is not a primary source. Every price is an average across exchanges compiled by a third party, each weighting venues differently. This page carries only things the chain, a filing or a government record states directly. The live price sits on our bitcoin price page instead.
Where does this data come from, and can I quote it?
The Bitcoin network itself read through mempool.space and blockchain.info, companies' own SEC filings, and the US Treasury's sanctions list. All are primary sources, all free to check, and every figure carries its own date. Quote any of it with credit to BTC Newz and a link to this page.
